Higher headquarters visits 916th Services Flight

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- On Sept. 14th the 916th Services Flight was visited by Maj. Joseph Bland, chief combat support branch for Air Force Reserve Command and Chief Master Sgt. Daniel Kelly, chief enlisted manager.. The two members from AFRC Headquarters were recently visiting Pope Air Force Base and came to Seymour Johnson to meet the 916th Services members. During their visit they answered questions and addressed concerns of the services flight members. Chief Master Sgt. Kelly (left), Maj. Bland (center) and Senior Master Sgt. Tucker discuss issues regarding Air Force Reserve Command's future merger of mission support and services into one force support squadron, (FSS). Active duty has already implemented this merge and now the Reserve is beginning the process.

Chamber of Commerce and 916th team up to expand missions

Brittany Paus (right), a Reservist with the 916th Security Forces, passes out Meals-Ready-to-Eat to members of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce during a special 'recruiting' day with the 916th Air Refueling Wing. Chamber members were selected to be 'generals' and were responsible for finding other members they could recruit into the chamber. Chamber members learned about the Air Force Reserve and were able to take a tour of a KC-135 Stratotanker.

Day on ramp in Turkey

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Senior Master Sgt. Dana Bates, a Reservist with the 916th Air Refueling Wing, works near the flightline in Incirlik, Turkey. More than 250 reservists from the North Carolina Air Force Reserve wing have been deployed to Turkey over a three-month period and are scheduled to end their deployment in early October. Sgt. Bates is an aircrew flight equipment supervisor.

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Lt. Col. Jason Biethman, 916th Operations Group scheduler, looks good wearing his blues to work on Monday. On Sept 15, Air Force Reserve technicians at the 916th Air Refueling Wing complied with a new directive ordered by the chief of staff of the Air Force and the commander of the Air Force Reserve to return to the pre-September 11, 2001 policy of wearing the blue uniform as the duty uniform vs. the more recently seen camoflauge uniforms. Reservists, and active duty alike, will wear the blue uniform on Mondays if deemed appropriate by their career field and work environment.

Reservists meet historical first

Bluford, Jr., NASA mission specialist and first African American astronaut, during the 37th Annual Tuskegee Airmen Convention late this summer. From Afghanistan to Switzerland, Reservist shares and learns valuable lessons

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Capt. Neil Chandler (sitting), a Reservist with the 916th Logistics Readiness Squadron, participates in some classroom discussion while attending the International Junior Officers Leadership Development Seminar in Switzerland. Capt. Chandler was one of 68 officers chosen for the opportunity from the U.S., Sweden, Italy, Canada, Switzerland, the U.K., Germany and the Netherlands. The course lasts one week and focuses on various leadership topics within an international military community. Capt. Chandler returned from a six-month deployment to Afghanistan earlier this year where he was recognized for his outstanding leadership abilities as company grade officer of the quarter while stationed there.
