10/31/2011 - SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C.  -- You've heard rumors that they exist.

You may have even read a story or two about them.

But on Oct. 12, 2011 they became official.

The 414th Fighter Group held their official assumption of command ceremony in mid-October. Col. Keith Acree, 414th FG commander, received the group's guidon from Col. Donald Lindberg, 482nd Fighter Wing commander, during a ceremony attended by more than 100 people.

The 414th is another example of pairing Air Force Reserve manpower with active duty machines. The new group flies and maintains the F-15E Strike Eagle alongside their 4th Fighter Wing counterparts here, but they report to the 482nd FW at Homestead Air Force Base, Fla. Their mission is to help train, and it's one that excites the head of Air Force Reserve command.

A couple weeks prior to the ceremony on Oct. 12, Lt. Gen. Charles Stenner, commander of Air Force Reserve Command, visited the group here. He was excited to see the progress the group had made and was hopeful for their future.

When fully manned, the 414th will consist of roughly 250 full, and part-time, reservists supporting the F-15E mission. If you're interested in learning about opportunities to work with the 414th, contact recruiting at: (919) 722-2258.
