Tarheel tanker takes to desert skies for Red Flag

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- A KC-135 Stratotanker from the 916th Air Refueling Wing, Air Force Reserve, takes off at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. The plane, and active duty crew from the 911th Air Refueling Squadron, call North Carolina home, but were participating in aerial war games called Red Flag. Since 1975, Nellis has hosted the event periodically, giving pilots from the U.S., NATO and other allied countries an opportunity to hone their skills for real combat situations. Doubling the fleet

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- In 2008, the 916th Air Refueling Wing located in Goldsboro, N.C. will become the first Reserve wing to do a reverse-associate partnership with the active duty. The 916th will gain eight additional KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft and will host 260 active duty fliers and maintainers. The active duty troops and aircraft start arriving in late 2007.

MCCHORD AIR FORCE BASE, WA -- A tanker assigned to the 916th Air Refueling Wing, Air Force Reserve, is the perfect picture sitting in front of Mt. Rainier in late July. Nearly 20 reservists from the North Carolina unit participated in RODEO 2007 in Washington. The exercise pits aircrews, maintainers, security forces and other sections against each other in an Air Mobility Command competition.

Nor'easter forces reservists to put training to the test
