Tarheel tanker takes to desert skies for Red Flag
SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- A KC-135 Stratotanker from the 916th Air Refueling Wing, Air Force Reserve, takes off at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. The plane, and active duty crew from the 911th Air Refueling Squadron, call North Carolina home, but were participating in aerial war games called Red Flag. Since 1975, Nellis has hosted the event periodically, giving pilots from the U.S., NATO and other allied countries an opportunity to hone their skills for real combat situations. The Air Force Reserve tankers from the 916th were there to support fighter refueling missions. (Photo by: Mr. Sagar N. Pathak/HorizontalRain.com)
