Camp Walker Color Run
AFN Pacific
Sept. 13, 2014 | 1:22
Having the opportunity to support your community and help others can be a self- rewarding experience. Specialist Marquetta Gibson takes a look at one unique race that celebrates healthiness, happiness and individuality.
Suggested tag:
More than one-hundred fifty volunteers and participant’s attended the five-k color resilience fun run in support of national suicide awareness month.
Sleeping in on the weekends may be great, but bringing a community together, adding color to their lives, and promoting the importance of suicide awareness month is one way the army substance abuse program never sleeps.
Yetta Kante:
The purpose of the five-k fun run was in recognition of national suicide prevention month. It’s recognized by the army nationwide, so this was our first annual color fun run.
During the run participants stopped at five designated stations in order to earn their colors. They completed activities and said a prayer for those whom have taken their lives through suicide.
Yetta Kante:
We wanted to let people know that there are other options and alternatives as oppose to suicide, and that you can get help. We plan on making the color-run an annual event for USAG Daegu, as many of our participants expressed interest, and stated that they had a great and they enjoyed doing the color-run.
As of august 1st there have been a total of one-hundred forty-four suicides throughout the department of defense, which has impacted our military community. Specialist Marquetta Gibson, Camp Walker, Korea.
