As the Hawaii Army National Guards Company B, 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment prepared for an upcoming deployment, it was time to break-down the CH-47 helicopters that have assigned to the unit for the past four years. The helicopters were flown into a commercial shipping port in Honolulu Hawaii, where they were partially disassembled in preparation for shipment to the continental United States. The helicopters will be reassigned to other Army National Guard aviation units in the states who are returning from deployment. The Bravo 171 Aviation Regiment was assisted in the process by their sister unit the Bravo triple 7 Aviation Support Battalion, who utilized a portion of their annual training to support this large iron move.

This type of asset reallocation is a cost saving measure by the National Guard Bureau where the deploying units fall in on equipment already in the deployed location. It also insures the helicopters assigned it Guard units in the states are properly maintained. (U.S. National Guard Video by Tech. Sgt. Andrew Jackson)
