Joint Combined CBRN Exchange

The Hawaii Army National Guard recently played host to a joint, Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) exchange at its Regional Training institute in Waimanalo. During the exchange, representatives from the Active Duty Army, assigned to the Defense Treat Reduction Agency, along with a Navy representative from the Armed Forces Radio Biology Institute, and members of the Washington National Guard’s 10th Civil Support Team, briefed military members from Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines, along with Active Duty Soldiers from the 25th Infantry Division on best practices of working in a possible contaminated environment. The participants also gained hands on experience conducing sweeps to detect nuclear contamination, and with emerging technologies in detection and identification.

The two week exchange covered a myriad of different topics regarding CBRN response, with well defined goals.

This exchange also provided the Members of the Washington National Guard the opportunity to grow its partnership with Thailand. The National Guard has a unique program where each state’s national guard is partnered with a country’s military. The State Partnership Program aims to build capability and relationships between the nations military’s first responders and other tactical areas of operations. The Washington National Guard currently has an on going relationship with Thailand and Indonesia.
