New faces help make history at Reserve wing
SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Lt. Col. Bill Uptmor (sitting) and Chief Master Sgt. Garry Seay are two of the key leaders for the 911th Air Refueling Squadron. Colonel Uptmor is the 911th ARS commander and Chief Seay is the superintendant in maintenance. These two active duty personnel are working alongside their Air Force Reserve counterparts as part of the new Active-associate wing which integrates the 911th as part of the 916th Air Refueling Wing. This is the first time in Air Force history that the active duty has integrated with the Reserve in this type of partnership. This announcement came as part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Act and by the end of 2008 more than 250 active duty troops will support the KC-135 air-to-air refueling mission along with more than 900 reservists assigned to the 916th ARW.
