Senior Airman Charles Walters, III demontrates why he was named the 916th Air Refueling Wing's Airman of the Quarter recently.

Airman Walters is not only a volunteer Reservist, but he also volunteers with the Stony Hill Rural Fire Department and is trying to spread the word about the department helping deployed troops during this holiday season.

"At least two of the department's members have deployed to or returned home from Iraq in the past year," he said. "And there are many other veterans in the department."

With firsthand knowledge of the struggles of fighting the war on terror, firefighters at Stony Hill are doing what they can to bring a taste of home to troops in Iraq. This year, members of the department plan to spread Christmas cheer to troops deployed to the Middle East. .Firefighters, paid and volunteer, will be donating and collecting items from Dec 8-15 for a care package to send overseas in time for Christmas. Anyone wishing to contribute to this package can drop items off at Stony Hill Station One at 7045 Stony Hill Rd, Wake Forest, NC 27587. Donations will be accepted daily from 6:30am to 8:30pm, until 9am on Mon. Dec. 15, 2008.
