It's a mother daughter thing Published Jan. 31, 2010 By Maj. Shannon Mann 916th Public Affairs SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Master Sgt. Jill Weissflog knows what it takes to be successful in the Air Force Reserve. She's been doing it for 23 years now. But 23 years isn't quite enough for this chief of personnel employment, She just re-enlisted for another six years. In fact, she enjoys her career so much that she recruited her daughter, Kristi Blanco. On Jan. 29, 2010, Col. Phil Fallin, vice commander of the 916th Air Refueling Wing re-enlisted mother Jill and enlisted daughter Kristi. "It is a very exciting day and it brought tears to my eyes," said Sergeant Weissflog. Kristi's decision to join the Reserve was based on her mother's influence. "She has heard me talk about the military for years," said Sergeant Weissflog. " She realized she can finish her degree, see the world and wants to support her country and she is proud of me and what I do." "I joined because it is a family tradition," said Kristi. After finishing basic military training at Lackland Air Force, Texas, Kristi will return to work in the 916th Maintenance Squadron working with aerospace ground equipment. Sergeant Weissflog beamed as the oath of enlistment was given. "I am so proud that she is making this big step."
