Welcome to the club Published Feb. 4, 2010 By Staff Sgt. Sean Gilson 911th Air Refueling Squadron UPAR SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- You see them everywhere. The prized leather jackets of an elite club. A club that has spent years training and honing their skills. A club that not everyone can get into. It is the club of Air Force fliers. In late January, four officers assigned to the 911th Air Refueling Squadron proudly joined the ranks of those pilots before them when they were presented with their coveted leather jackets. Capts. Ben Sherman, Darcy Allen, Aaron Marx and Jason Ratcliff earned their jackets after completing mission certification training and deploying with the 911th ARS. Col. Larry Martin, commander of the 6th Air Mobility Wing at MacDill was at Seymour Johnson conducting a site visit and presided over the presentation. But completing certification training and deploying weren't the only things these pilots had to do to earn their jackets. Colonel Martin lined up the 15 youngest KC-135R crew chiefs and had the pilots thank each one of them before they received their jackets. "Every day you put on the jacket I want you to think about the young men and women standing on stage who make it possible," said Colonel Martin.
