Arranging lodging for reservists during Unit Training Assemblies can be a daunting task, as more than 600 traditional reservists from the 916th Air Refueling Wing must be provided a place to stay each month.

Complicating this problem further is when reservists don't cancel billeting arrangements when they need to reschedule a drill weekend.  A simple solution can turn into some complex math in adding up both wasted man hours and wasted funds.

Master Sgt. David Nickel, 916th Wing lodging monitor said, "Last year the wing spent thousands in no-shows. That's money that could have been used elsewhere."

Sgt. Nickel went on to say that each UTA he spends at least three hours gathering information to pass to the first sergeants at each squadron. According to Sgt. Nickel, he spends an additional eight hours compiling information received from different units, matching each unit lodging roster against hotel invoices to validate if the member signed up for the night in question.

Any member that needs to cancel or change a reservation should make sure to contact their unit lodging monitor, the Southern Pines Inn at (919) 722-0385 as well as the hotel at which the reservation has been made.
