More than 60 young ladies from various Girl Scout troops across the state visited here on Sat. July 9, 2011.

The Girl Scouts, which were part of the Girl Scout Council of the Coastal Carolinas, delivered cookies and goodwill while visiting Airmen of the 916th Air Refueling Wing and 567th RED HORSE Squadron.

In May, the Girl Scouts donated more than 14,000 boxes of cookies to the wing to be distributed among Airmen here and for those going overseas. Unfortunately the delivery was made during the week while school was still in session and only one young lady was able to participate. The donation was part of Operation Cookie Drop.

Leadership of the 916th ARW wanted to show how much they appreciated the gesture and invited the girls out to take a static tour of the KC-135, visit the 4th Fighter Wing's load barn and see a static F-15E Strike Eagle and meet, face-to-face, with Airmen preparing to deploy overseas.

While the statics were a highlight of the day, the best part came as the ladies talked with, and offered cookies to Reservists from the 567th RED HORSE Squadron.

Senior Airman Kevia Braxton, 567th RED HORSE, said that the scouts and Airmen shared similiar experiences...both meeting on a regular basis and having a large role to play in their communities.

Senior Airman Emily Bruckner, 567th RED HORSE, beamed as she talked about what a great experience meeting the scouts had been. She said that many of the reservists were walking down the halls with their cookies talking about what a great time they had meeting the young ladies and how nice for them to show how much they care about our troops and the mission.
