SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. --  Since 2006, the 916th Aerospace Medicine Squadron has had a familar face as its commander.

Six years and many missions later that's changed.

On Sept. 22, Col. (Dr.) Ed San Miguel assumed command from Col. (Dr.) William Bobbitt.

The two have worked closely over the last few years and when Bobbitt was presented with an opportunity that allowed him more time to focus on his civilian practice, while at the same time opening a leadership door for San Miguel he took it.

San Miguel is an emergency room doctor in Wilmington and knows the wing and mission here well. As a flight doctor, he has flown many aeromedical missions into and out of Afghanistan, as well as helped his own unit medical professionals prepare for deployments to Central America.

San Miguel now focuses his attention on ensuring his squadron passes a critical Health Services Inspection in December, while Bobbitt will move to his new position as special assistant to the wing commander helping the 916th prepare for several inspections in the same month.
