18th Air Force Commander visits 916th Published Dec. 10, 2012 SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- The 916th Air Refueling Wing put out the welcome mat for the 18th Air Force commander, Lt. Gen. Darren McDew, for a visit here Dec. 4. McDew leads Air Mobility Command's sole numbered air force, the Air Force's largest, and is responsible for day-to-day execution of AMC's worldwide operational mission. During his visit, the general met with wing and community members, recognized top performers, and spoke with hundreds of Airmen during a wing town hall meeting. During the meeting, McDew explained the two-fold purpose of his visit: to show appreciation to Airmen and listen to their concerns. "I never stand in front of a group who has chosen to wear the uniform without saying thank you," said McDew. "You are the best Air Force we've ever had. The things we've grown through have made us better and you're part of that." Noting the season, McDew also took time to emphasize the importance of being a good wingman. "The holiday season, as joyous as it is, is painful for many," he said, encouraging Airmen to ensure those around them have the support they need. McDew also discussed sexual assault prevention and response, particularly the duty of Airmen to respect each other. "Respect must be part of everything we do," said McDew, adding that sexual assault is a serious issue that Airmen have the power and obligation to stop. Finally, just as he had begun his visit, McDew ended the all call with two words "thank you."
