Commander's commentary: I know you can!

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. --  For the last few years the members of the 916th Air Refueling Wing have been on a tough path. Inspections, deployments and uncertainty in government have marked the past 16 months for all of us.

Next month we face another challenge, in which we will be tested, and exhausted by the end. In early May the inspectors from Air Mobility Command will descend upon us to test our know-how and mettle during a nuclear operational readiness inspection. I have no doubt this wing is ready.

For months we have hustled in every area of operations...from testing and cargo loading to maintenance and elephant walks, we've done it all, done it repeatedly and improved each time.

As the first wing in AMC history to excel at a no-notice NORI I cannot stress how many eyes will be on you in May. Not just those of the inspectors, your supervisors and your co-workers, but of those across AMC, AFRC and the Air Force...wondering, "Can they do it again?'" I know you can!

This inspection is unique to our others as it requires a smaller footprint...less people are involved. So while you might not understand or see the direct impact you have on this inspection, I promise you that leadership sees it. We are a team and it takes every AirmAn and Reservist to do their jobs to ensure the few we 'push out the door' are at their best. That means that the few have an unwaivering knowledge that they are supported by the many they 'leave behind' as they step to those jets.

With our ops tempo constantly pushing us I haven't been able to take time to properly thank those who have done so much for our compliance inspection and this inspection. That doesn't mean I don't notice and appreciate the sacrifices that you, your family and your employers have made to making this wing outstanding, but it does mean we need to keep our eye on the prize a little longer and find a way to celebrate our victory in the end. And the end is near.
