It's normally frowned upon in school when you're caught with your head in the clouds, but for one day in April students at Meadow Lane Elementary School in Goldsboro, N.C., did just that ... with help from members of the 916th Air Refueling Wing.

During the school's annual career fair, in late April, wing members spoke with roomfuls of enthusiastic students about their careers with the Air Force Reserve and their roles in the refueling mission.

Speakers included Master Sgt. Kenneth Plott and Staff Sgt. Kenya McCall who discussed their careers as aviation resource managers, Master Sgt. Steven Stanton and Senior Airman Kijuan Amey who described their duties as boom operators, and 1st Lt. James Erkard who helped students visualize life as a KC-135R Stratotanker pilot.
Underscoring the significance of teamwork and education for success, the speakers treated the children with a show-and-tell of some of the gear used by KC-135R crewmembers. "The children were excited to try on oxygen helmets and gloves," said McCall.

Thinking that only a few students might be interested in trying the gear on, the speakers were pleasantly surprised that every student wanted a turn. "All 95 students got an opportunity and they had an awesome experience," she said.

Wrapping up the presentation, the speakers brought the students back to earth by presenting them with a bag full of wing memorabilia donated by the recruiting office. "The school staff told us how grateful they were to have us come out and help make the career day a success," said Plott. "It was a very uplifting experience for me personally and for the kids."
