STARBASE educates youth on military Published June 18, 2013 916TH Public Affairs Office Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C. -- In mid-June Airmen of the 916th Air Refueling Wing and 4th Fighter Wing pulled resources together to show a group of 5th-graders what military airpower is all about. STARBASE, Base Science and Technology Academies Reinforcing Basic Aviation and Space Exploration (STARBASE), is a camp-type program that focuses on science, technology, engineering and math. On June 17, 2013 the program brought 60 youth to the flightline here while pilots from both wings talked about their jobs and the aircraft they fly. Seymour Johnson was the first active-duty base to embrace the program, which occurs across the Department of Defense. The program dates back more than 20 years.
