COLONEL STEPHEN L. LANIER

Colonel Stephen “Steve” Lanier is commander of the 916th Air Refueling Wing, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base North Carolina. He commands a key air refueling unit in Air Force Reserve Command.  The wing was selected to be the first KC-46A Pegasus in Air Force Reserve Command.  Col. Lanier will be responsible for the planning and execution of the KC-46 conversion and joins the wing as it divests its KC-135s in preparation for the receipt of the new KC-46. He will lead the wing into the future as the first unit equipped KC-46 wing in Air Force Reserve Command.
 
Colonel Lanier is a 1990 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and joined the Air Force Reserve in 2001 after nearly 11 years on active duty. He earned his Pilot wings as a Distinguished Graduate of UPT Class 91-14 at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.
 
He has extensive experience as a KC-135R instructor/ evaluator, KC-10A instructor, and T-34C instructor/evaluator. He has deployed in support of multiple overseas contingencies including Operations Southern Watch, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. Prior to his current assignment, Colonel Lanier was Commander of the 315th Operations Group, Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.
