Welcome to the 916th Air Refueling Wing, Air Force Reserve, located at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C. The 916th began as the 916th Troop Carrier Group, Heavy. It was established on December 28, 1962, but organized on January 17 1963, at Donaldson AFB, South Carolina before its move Carswell AFB, Texas.
 
The peacetime mission of the 916th Air Refueling Wing is to develop and maintain the operational capability of its subordinate units, to train and equip the men and women of the 916th, and to convert from the KC-135R Stratotanker to a KC-46A Pegasus. 
 
The wing has three groups: the 916th Operations Group, the 916th Maintenance Group, and the 916th Mission Support Group. Subordinate units include the 77th Air Refueling Squadron and the 916th Aerospace Medicine Squadron.
