  • For many a second job might be against company policy, but for traditional reservists of the 916th Air Refueling Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base their part-time job defending the nation became an exciting field trip for their civilian bosses in mid-March. The air-to-air refueling wing invited more than 40 employers from across North Carolina, Virginia and Georgia to learn about the wing and see a mid-air refueling. At the end of the day employers were able to meet up with their Reserve employees to take a tour of their work station and learn more about how their employees give back to the nation in many different ways.     Aircrew gets survival training

  • When the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup in 2006 they shared the magic of the cup with their adoring fans. Recently, Senior Master Sgt. James Nickel, 916th Civil Engineer Squadron, Air Force Reserve, was excited to pose with the prestigious Stanley Cup as it toured the state of North Carolina.

  • Master Sgt. Grady Raynor received top honors from the Society of Military Engineers in mid-February when he received the society's Goddard Medal. The medal is presented for outstanding contributions to military engineering, including military troop construction, base maintenance, and contingency engineering. The medal was first awarded in 1973. Sergeant Raynor is an engineer with the 916th Air Refueling Wing, Air Force Reserve.

  • Reservists from the 916th Air Refueling Wing, Logistics Readiness Squadron, supply life-saving fuel to Navy rescue helicopters while on a deployment to Guam. The efforts of these fuel technicians directly supported 19 lives being saved at sea.

  • Capt. Ted Janicki, a reservist with the 916th Air Refueling Wing and a professor at Mt. Olive College, gave a presentation to more than a 100 people in mid-February while home on leave from Afghanistan. Capt. Janicki volunteered to serve a year tour in the Middle Eastern country starting last summer and while home on leave decided to share his experiences with the local community. Capt.   • Tanker recapitalization proposal released

    Air Force leaders officially released a request for proposal for a replacement tanker aircraft Jan. 30. The RFP is the official invitation to manufacturers to begin making offers to build a replacement for the Air Force's aging "Eisenhower-era" fleet of KC-135 Stratotankers, said Sue Payton, the assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition.
