BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colorado -- Until recently, IRs were required to complete the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) at the end of every set of orders of 180 or more days, even if they only had a one-day break in between.
An update to the TAP guidance was recently published which included changes to make compliance with the program less burdensome, while still ensuring members are provided important information to comply with the law and assist with pursuing additional education, seeking or returning to employment in the public or private sector, pursuing further education, and understanding the Veterans Administration programs available to them.
With this change, reservists must now complete the full TAP just once after November 7, 2016, the date the current eForm version took effect. After the eForm is complete, members no longer have to redo it at the end of every set of 180+ day orders. However, they can access the TAP briefings and take advantage of the help and information voluntarily.
“This is a huge win for our IRs,” said Col. Amy J. Boehle, Headquarters Readiness and Integration Organization commander. “The TAP program has a wealth of information and I highly encourage our Airmen to use that valuable resource, but the latest change affords our folks the flexibility to use that resource when they need it, not just because you complete a long tour. It makes sense and is a win-win for everyone.”
