9/17/2012 - SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Starting Oct. 22, 2012 Seymour Johnson Air Force Base begins the migration to a central Air Force network.
"The goal of the migration is so Airmen and reservists can access their information and work from any base, using a common access card-enabled computer in the AFNet system," said Aaron Owen, 916th network administrator.
Once the migration is complete members will no longer have an email address ending in @seymourjohnson.af.mil. A permanent email address ending in @us.af.mil will be assigned and members will use that address throughout the remainder of their career.
The migration will also result in a consolidated customer service help desk called the Enterprise Service Desk (ESD). The ESD will serve as a "one-stop" shop for the resolution of common user problems and can be reached at DSN 510-HELPDESK.
Information about your role in the migration process will be disseminated over the course of the next few weeks. To allow for a smooth migration to the AFNet domain the network user can assist by accomplishing a few tasks prior to Oct. 22, 2012.
1. Please keep mailboxes clean by moving emails to personal folders, deleting "Sent Items", and emptying the "Deleted Items" folder.
2. Please remove items from Public Folders that are older than 120 days
3. Please be responsive to all emails during the migration process
Any questions or concerns can be addressed by contacting the 916th FSS/SCOO Network Administration shop at 722-2005.
