8/15/2012 - SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- When you're deployed it seems easier to take some time for yourself when you're not working long hours.
Most deployers focus their attention on the gym or professional military education when they are far away from family. Some catch up on reading, while others try to take in the local culture, but for a group of Airmen from the 916th Air Refueling Wing helping the local community was their priority.
Staff Sgt. Kenya McCall, a reservist in the 77th Air Refueling Squadron, coordinates the volunteers assigned to the 90th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron at Incirlik. Recently several active duty Airmen from McChord Air Force Base and active duty Airmen and reservists from the 916th Air Refueling Wing here helped special needs children at the Adana School.
"We cleaned up a garden at the school," McCall said. "We played games and brought lunch to them."
McCall enjoyed sharing the experience and hopes Airmen from the 916th will be able to do a few more projects while overseas.
