“And the winner is…”

Mrs. Cathy Woodson, spouse of Col. Harry Woodson, Mission Support Group commander, 916th Air Refueling Wing, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C., was presented with the 2006 Katharine Wright Memorial Award at the 4th AF level.

The award was established and named in honor of Orville and Wilbur Wright’s sister, Katharine. It is awarded annually by Gates Learjet Corporation to a military spouse who has provided encouragement, support and inspiration.

Mrs. Woodson won the award by building a huge circle of influence through her association with base and community groups.

Mrs. Woodson was unanimously voted as president of the Seymour Johnson Officer and Civilian Spouse’s Club after only two years of service in the organization. She was the first Reservist spouse to ever hold this position.

She performed as the family services coordinator, helping to recruit volunteers and provide information to command leadership on the importance of volunteerism and its function in serving the community.
“By taking care of our families, she helps our military personnel concentrate on fulfilling the mission our country gives us,” said Col. Mike Holmes, 4th Fighter Wing commander.

Mrs. Woodson attended Heartlink programs to help introduce new military spouses into the world of military life.

She also served as a committee member for Wayne Community College’s “Makes a Difference Week.”
“Her energy, laughter and enthusiasm touch everyone,” said Ms. Faye Jenkins of Family Support. “She is an excellent role model for other spouses because she is ‘can do,’ upbeat, giving, happy, loving, capable and undaunted and just a joy to be around.”

“People in the 4th FW better know all of us here in the 916th ARW because of her efforts,” said Col. Woodson. “Through better working relationships, we all win.”
