The 916th Air Refueling Wing recently launched a free mobile application in the Android marketplace and the App store.

The application opens new channels of communication for Airmen and the local community and is available to anyone with access to either operating system. The software also provides members of the wing with a pre-loaded archive of easily accessible and pertinent information.

“The 916th Air Refueling Wing is a forerunner in taking advantage of mobile application technology,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Webb, 916th wing chaplain. “We anticipate the spiritual health and resiliency of our Airmen will grow stronger as a direct result of the chaplain resources available through the 916th ARW app.”

The software meets the unique needs of a Reserve wing by allowing wing leadership to easily communicate with their Airmen when they are not performing their reserve duty.

In the event of an emergency, the mobile application will be able to send out push notifications to users with critical information.

The application is available to supplement, not replace other forms of Department of Defense communications.

“It’s refreshing to see the military is keeping up with trends and making information more accessible to everyone,” said Senior Airman Corey Speight, 916th Maintenance Squadron fuels technician.

Among the software’s most prominent features is a “groups” function that allows individual users to communicate within small groups, an Air Force fitness calculator and a multimedia archive that gives users access to a gallery of wing multimedia products.

Straxis Technologies developed the mobile application with assistance and inputs from a variety of wing functional areas. The application is constantly being updated with new information based the needs of those functional areas and on feedback from users.

Wing agencies that provide wing-wide services recognize the improved member support that mobile technologies offer and have been eager to embrace this new communication tool.

“We hope to make the app more interactive by customizing the ‘Chaplain’ feature and periodically adding new resources to keep Airmen engaged with new material,” said Webb.
